Feminist School: On 9 June 2012, Noushin Ahmadi Khorasani, women’s rights activist and one of the founders of the One Million Signatures Campaign, was sentenced to one year’s suspended imprisonment and five years of probation. Her lawyer, Farideh Gheirat was informed of her sentence on 9 June 2012.

On 22 Sep. 2010, Noushin Ahmadi Khorasani was released after she appeared before the Evin Prison Court “to provide some explanations,” and was informed of the charges against her. The court found her guilty on various charges aimed at “propaganda activities against the regime through: a) writing and publishing articles against the regime on the Feminist School website and b) participation in the illegal gatherings after the 2009 elections,” as reported on the Feminist School website. After being informed of the charges against her, Khorasani defended herself, and was released on bail. (1)

Noushin Ahmadi Khorasani’s trial was held on 11 March 2012 in Branch 26 of the Islamic revolutionary court. On 9 June 2010, her lawyer, Farideh Gheirat, was informed that she was sentenced to one year’s suspended imprisonment and 5 years probation. If she violates her probation, she would serve her sentenced term, in addition to which she would receive the usual penalty that applies to that charge.

Noushin Ahmadi Khorasani is a writer, sociologist, women’s rights activist, a founder of the One Million Signatures Campaign, and Editor-in-Chief of the Feminist School website. She had previously been arrested for participating in the peaceful gathering of 12 June 2006 and was tried on 4 March 2006 along with 32 other women’s rights activists. At the time, she was represented by Nasrin Sotoudeh, a human rights lawyer who herself is presently in prison.
